VEGAS MYTHS BUSTED: Casinos Rig Your Cards

A man boldly displayed a maze of sensors taped below the betting zones of a blackjack table that had been stripped of its felt in one of the most widely shared Vegas films from the previous week.

“This is it right here, this is why I don’t gamble,” he declares in a clip posted by X user @JOKAQARMY under the title: “This is how they get you at these gambling tables.”

“So you want to play 21?” the narrator continues, mimicking a dealer as he places imaginary cards around the table. “Let’s put your cards here, here, here, here. And guess what?”

The video, which garnered over a million views on the day it was uploaded, claims to reveal what the narrator believes to be a number of technological devices that casinos use to manipulate blackjack results.

“The table knows who got what!” he insists. “The card machine that’s distributing the cards gonna mix them around in that!”

Similar to the Mafia-tampered private poker games at the heart of the recent FBI-uncovered NBA sports betting scam, he is now implying that the automatic shuffler rigs the cards to bust players.

Naturally, his assertion is refuted by fundamental blackjack principles.

Blackjack is played face up, which is a spoiler. In contrast to poker, everyone is already aware of who has what. Actually, there aren't any live games in casinos where you employ secret cards to compete against the house.

“Come on man, I’m not stupid!” the narrator claims.

Well…

Absence of Perception

There is no reason for casinos to cheat. All they have to do is be there. Both mathematically and legally, the odds are completely in their favor.

Since the legal method works so well for everyone, the corporations that own them—especially the corporate giants that have operated every Strip facility for the past 40 years—would not risk stock collapse, CEO prison sentences, and the loss of gaming licenses by cheating on even one player.

Naturally, they will jeopardize everything to allow a known illegal bookmaker to place a wager. (Apologies, but we're getting off topic.) Resorts World, Wynn Resorts, MGM Resorts International, and Caesars Entertainment were just added to this list last week.

Really, it's hardly a test of strategic skill to expect anything more from a casino table game than a fun time while you gradually deplete your bankroll.

Additionally, the casinos' legal advantage has only grown since the outbreak thanks to:

  • 6/5 blackjack (now standard on the Strip) increases the house edge by 1.39% over the classic 3/2 payout.
  • Triple-zero roulette adds 2.43% to the house edge over double-zero, and a whopping 4.99% over the now-extinct single-zero game.
  • Higher table minimums ensure low rollers lose faster — with less play, fewer comps, and less fun

“The only way to win money out of a casino is to own one,” Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying — except he didn’t. That’s another myth.

So What Was Under That Blackjack Table?

A gaming table equipped with a network of sensors and antennae that are intended to track chips rather than cards is known as an RFID gaming table.

There are four very valid, non-nefarious uses for RFID tables:

  • Player Rating Accuracy: Scanning chips to track wager amounts, hands played, and average bet size — replacing pit-boss guesswork with comp-worthy data.
  • Security: Detecting counterfeit or stolen chips, mid-hand bet tampering, suspicious bet spreads, and dealer theft — all in real time.
  • Operational Efficiency: Monitoring dealer speed, table productivity, chip inventory, and profitability. Enables cashless play and analytics integration.
  • Responsible Gaming Surveillance: Linking chips to player cards to flag excessive play and support problem gambling detection.

Thus, the table is indeed surreptitiously observing. It's discreetly keeping an eye on your wagers rather than your cards, though.

Regarding the man's assertion that he is not stupid... For whatever reason you decide against gambling in a casino, it turns out to be wise if you value keeping your money.
